 Ten year old Shereen Ramanayake who published her first book called ‘Proud Peacock’ and other stories’ said that her love for reading is what
inspired her to start writing from the age of seven.
She attends Asian International School explained that she wrote the book when she was seven years old it contains stories about animals an other things that interests her. When she was seven years old she realized that she loved writing and always searched for ideas in her quest of the next story. The hidden truth of her success story is that she writes down all images and exotic ideas that pop into her mind during any time of the day especially during the night. In addition to this book she has already completed two other books and has currently sent them for editing. One of them is about a boy who goes in search of a legendary treasure while the other is about the same boy who helps a mermaid to stop a battle. She said she chose these topics because she likes to learn about the sea and the stars. Her future ambition is to become a scientist and to publish a big novel that would achieve popularity. The novel would be about magic and mysteries inspired by her favorite writers J.K. Rowling Debbie Larry and Rick Riordan. Shereen has participated in writing competitions at the British Council and the Commonwealth Essay- writing Competition in March where she won the 4th place. Her favorite subjects at school are Science and French. She had a special word of thanks for her parents, teachers and friends who helped and supported her, as she climbed the ladder to her greatest achievement of publishing a children’s book at the age of ten. |
