Plan Sri Lanka

Plan - Sri Lanka

Plan is one of the world's largest child-centered community development organizations now working in 60 countries. In Sri Lanka, Plan works with children in poor rural communities, to transform their lives, by bringing sustainable development to their communities.

Our Vision is to work for a world in which all children realize their full potential within societies that respect people's rights and dignity.

Our Mission is to strive to achieve lasting improvements in the quality of life of deprived children in developing countries through a process that unites people across cultures and adds meaning and value to their lives by:

  • Enabling deprived children, their families and their communities to meet their basic needs and to increase their ability to participate in and benefit from their societies;
  • Building relationships to increase understanding and unity among peoples of different cultures and countries; and Promoting the rights and interests of the world's children.

Plan's child-centered approach to development means that we consider children as partners in the development process, rather than passive recipients of aid. Giving children an opportunity to access information and to express their views, hopes and aspirations, provides us with a different and valuable perspective of issues that affect children. Listening to their voices, instead of simply assuming we know what's best for them is integral to our work.

Plan has worked in Sri Lanka over the last 25 years, to bring lasting improvements to poor rural communities. We now work with over 24,000 children, their families and communities, in twenty two divisional secretariat areas in eight districts - Hambantota, Moneragala, Kandy, Badulla, Matale, Anuradhapura Kurunegala and Nuwara Eliya.
